What Paint Do You Guys Use?

“What paint do you guys use?” This question rattles my soul. We hear it almost weekly, but let’s back up a moment.

I wish we won every estimate we bid, but we don’t. I wish I never had a potential client call and say, “I had someone paint my kitchen cabinets and they look awful, can you fix them?”

Look, whoever completes your project, I hope they do it with integrity in business, clear and honest communication, and an in-depth understanding of the products they use. I hope their standard surpasses your expectations. I hope their workmanship is detailed. Why do I say all this?

Because I see and hear about too many clients who had projects go bad because they didn’t do their homework.

SOME CUSTOMER HORROR STORIES

I really do hear some shocking things when clients call in.

For example, I’ve had numerous phone calls about kitchen cabinets. I hear about how bad they look because the contractor brushed them instead of spraying. Or they didn’t sand properly and now the paint is chipping, peeling, and/or bubbling, and the contractor won’t call them back. And guess what? They paid in full, and they don’t even know what product the contractor used.

Here’s another example. I received a phone call a few weeks ago from a lady who is five states away. She didn’t trust her contractor so she looked to the internet for advice. She found Heritage Custom Painting and started reading our blogs

When she calls, she first apologizes for calling me and says “I had a painter give me a quote for the exterior. I told him I wanted the highest premium paint and I don’t think he quoted me the right paint.”

I dug more into the facts of the quote and sure enough, the paint that was going to be applied to her home was not premium paint. The homeowner was about to throw away a lot of money.

Lastly, I had a phone call a week ago from a lady whose painter didn’t show up the day the job was supposed to start, so she called Heritage wanting a quote. We met with her the same day for the quote. She told us the other painter’s price and we gave her our pricing, which was a hair higher. She called a few days later and asked if we could match the price of the other contractor.

I had to tell her that when comparing quotes, our pricing was much fairer because with the other guy’s products she would’ve been painting again much sooner than with the paint we quoted. Pricing matters, products matter, and so do warranties.

WHAT PAINT DO YOU USE?

Heritage Painting uses top-of-the-line products from PPG, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore. We use a diverse range of products from these lines, but they are all top-tier products that we are confident will last for years. The paints we use are also protective products that prevent mold and mildew and are durable enough to last through severe weather and day-to-day use.

I hope I got my point across, but if I didn’t, please walk away knowing this one thing. RESEARCH THE PRODUCTS YOUR CONTRACTORS ARE USING. They aren’t all the same and make a huge difference in durability and washability. And spoiler alert, cheap paint isn’t cheaper.

A quality contractor will carry insurance, provide warranties and give referrals. They are timely, experienced, and knowledgeable. They will earn your trust.
